LYDIA DIMITROW (GERMANY) - TRANSLATION - PRO HELVETIA FELLOWSHIP

Lydia Dimitrow studied comparative literature at the Free University of Berlin and the University of Lausanne. She translates poetry, theater and novels from French and English into German, including authors such as Isabelle Flükiger, Bruno Pellegrino, Valérie Poirier or Aristide Tarnagda.

In Lavigny, she translates the novel Après le monde (Qui Vive-Buchet/Chastel 2020) by the French-speaking Swiss writer Antoinette Rychner.

ANNA KOVE (ALBANIA) - TRANSLATION - PRO HELVETIA FELLOWSHIP

Anna Kove is a well-known poet and translator from Albania. She is the author of many poetry books, such as "Shën Valentin ku ishe", "Djegë Ujërash", "Nimfa e pemës së humbur", "Kambanat e së dielës"and has been awarded with many prizes in different competitions in Albania, Kosovo and Montenegro. Her contribute in translations is even wider.
She is the winner of the translation stock of "Schritte Stipendien", from S. Fischer Stiftung in Literarisches Colloquium Berlin and Residency grants for literary translators at Europäisches Übersetzer-Kollegium Straelen.
Some of her best-received translation works include those of authors like: Paul Celan, Rose Ausländer, Hermann Broch, Ilse Aichinger, Herta Mueller, Daniel Kehlmann, Clemens Meyer and different poetry works by S. Kirsch, M. L. Kaschnitz, I. Bachman, N. Sachs have been published in different Albanian literary magazines.
In Lavigny she translates the novel Die sanfte Gleichgültigkeit der Welt by the Swiss writer Peter Stamm.

ZORANA RACKOV (SERBIA) - TRANSLATION - PRO HELVETIA FELLOWSHIP

Zorana Rackov was born in Kikinda in 1980. She has a BA in French language and literature and she has devoted herself to teaching and translation work of French-speaking authors. Her first translation of a short story by Quebec author Eric Gautier published in 2011 was followed by Marie-Chantale Gariépy’s short story novel 25 cents et autres histoires à la pièce (Tête première, 2016). As for Suisse authors, she chose to translate Rengaine by Julien Maret (Edition José Corti, 2011) and Poids Lourd by Pascal Rebetez (Editions d’autre part, 2017).

Within her translation project at the Château of Lavigny, she is working on the novel Hériter du silence by Mathias Howald (Editions d’autre part, 2018).

IRINA TALEVSKA (NORTH MACEDONIA) - TRANSLATION - PRO HELVETIA FELLOWSHIP

Irina Talevska graduated in Italian Language and Literature, minoring in Spanish Language and Literature. Talevska earned her MA and Ph. D in Literary Theory and Criticism at SS. Cyril and Methodius University of Skopje, North Macedonia. She is assistant professor of Italian Literature at the Department of Italian Language and Literature at Blaze Koneski Faculty of Philology in Skopje.

Talevska is actively dedicated to translating fiction and non-fiction from Italian and Spanish Language. Among her translations are included: Primo Levi, Se questo è un uomo; I sommersi e i salvati, Anna Maria Ortese, Il mare non bagna Napoli; Giorgio Agamben, Homo Sacer. Il potere sovrano e la nuda vita; Goliarda Sapienza, L'arte della gioia; Italo Svevo, La coscienza di Zeno; Guillermo Martínez, Crímenes imperceptibles; Acerca de Roderer, etc.

In Lavigny, she translates I beati anni del castigo by the Swiss-Italian writer Fleur Jaeggy.

AMALIJA VITEZOVIC (SERBIA) - TRANSLATION - PRO HELVETIA FELLOWSHIP

Amalija Vitezović was born in 1975 and lives in Belgrade, Serbia. She is a translator of French and English, a graphic designer and a librarian. Until now she has been working as a French teacher, a collaborator in several Serbian publishing houses and has translated several literary works, including novels, radio dramas, children's books, as well as television programs and scientific texts (archaeology). Since 2010 she has been working at the Belgrade City Library.

In Lavigny, she translates into Serbian the novel Grand National by the Swiss writer Roland Buti.

CARSTEN JENSEN (DENMARK) - FICTION, NON FICTION, TRAVELOGUE

Born in 1952, graduated in literature from University of Copenhagen, 1981, published 26 books among them novels, essays and travelogues, the latest is Exercises in Parting, 2020, on grief, pandemic and climate change.

BETH ANN FENNELLY (USA) - FICTION, POETRY

Beth Ann Fennelly, the poet laureate of Mississippi, teaches in the MFA Program at the University of Mississippi, where she was named Outstanding Teacher of the Year. She’s won grants from the N.E.A., United States Artists, and a Fulbright to Brazil.   

Her sixth book, Heating & Cooling: 52 Micro-Memoirs (W. W. Norton) was an Atlanta Journal Constitution Best Book of 2017. 

ANTOINE JACCOUD (SWITZERLAND) - FICTION, THEATRER, FILM

Antoine Jaccoud was born in Lausanne, Switzerland in 1957. He writes for the cinema ( L'enfant d'en haut and Journal de ma tête by Ursula Meier, Le vent tourne by Bettina Oberli ), the theater (Le mari de Lolo, On liquide , Adieu aux bêtes created at the Théâtre de Vidy-Lausanne in 2017) and for everything that is connected to the oral expression. Performed in France, Belgium, Poland and Burkina Faso, his plays have also been broadcast by Radio Suisse Italienne and France Culture. Antoine Jaccoud also tours on stages in Switzerland and elsewhere with the authors and musicians of the spoken word group "Bern ist überall .  Au revoir , dit au Festival d'Avignon by Mathieu Amalric in July 2019 is his most recent monologue. He is currently preparing the film adaptation of two of his monologues and is working on the conception of a poetic and performative dialogue with the Albanian author and actor Shpëtim Selmani.

REIN RAUD (ESTONIA) - FICTION, POETRY, TRANSLATION, NON-FICTION

Rein Raud (born 1961 in Tallinn, Estonia) is a writer, as well as a scholar of cultural theory and Japanese classics. He is the author of 9 novels, 5 poetry collections, 4 other books of fiction and numerous translations from Japanese, Italian, Lithuanian, Classical Chinese and German. He has received the Best Book of Fiction Award (2004 and 2013) and the Eduard Vilde Award (2009). Three of his novels have been published in English, The Brother (2016), The Reconstruction (2017) and The Death of the Perfect Sentence (2017), longlisted for the Dublin International Literary Award. He has also published 3 academic monographs in English (one of these co-authored with Zygmunt Bauman) and 2 in Estonian, in addition to several edited volumes and numerous articles both in scholarly publications and periodicals for the general public..

SHPËTIM SELMANI (KOSOVO) - FICTION, POETRY, NON-FICTION

Shpëtim Selmani was born on 1986 in Kosovo. Has obtained a degree from the University of Pristina – Faculty of Arts in Acting. Beside writing poetry and novels he also plays regularly in theatre performances.  His publications include Notes of a Wrangler, Poetry in the times of Blood and Desperation 2010 – 2017 and his last book Booklet of Love. Shpetim writes continuously for the alternative blog S’bunker. He received the European Union Prize for Literature in 2020.

IVA BRDAR (SERBIA) - THEATER, FILM, TRANSLATION

Iva Brdar is a playwright. She studied Dramaturgy at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade and a Master's degree in Theatre Studies at Paris 3 - Sorbonne Nouvelle. Among her texts, Thumbs Up received Brücke Berlin Preis and Sterijino Pozorje prize, Geraniums Never Die received the prize for best committed drama text from Heartefact Foundation and Tomorrow is (for now) still here was in the shortlist of Theatertreffen Stückemarkt. She is a recipient of the Beaumarchais-SACD, CNL and Odyssée grants. Her plays have been staged and read in Germany (Schauspiel Stuttgart, Deutsches Theater), USA (Cherry Arts, New York Public Library), France (Théâtre du Nord), Austria (Kosmos Theater) and have been translated into English, German, French, Italian and Czech. In Germany, his plays are represented by Rowohlt Verlag.

EZZ DARWIESH (EGYPT) - THEATER, FICTION, NON-FICTION, POETRY

Ezz Darwiesh is a Freelancer Writer, visual artist and activist. He writes theatre plays, 14 performances Thoughts in my mind, The mice room, Time of shadow, The dreamers’ revolution and others. His plays participated in many international festivals and awarded to a few awards. In 2011, he started blogging about the revolutions in the middle east and many other public events. He wrote a novel Searching for the lost and a collection of poetry. He started publishing his work on the internet as an alternative to deal with the publishing problems in Egypt and for issues related to freedom of expression and the censorship. In 2017, he got a grant from Al Mawred organization in their program Kon Ma3 El Fann as artist at risk. Ezz Darwiesh is also a painter. In 2019 he organized his first installation exhibition Universal breathing  for painting, photography and written thoughts.

Tareq Samin is a Poet, Writer and Editor of the bilingual literary journal Sahitto. He is author of six books, include two poetry collections, three Short Stories collections and a Novel. Some of his poems are translated in English, Spanish, German, Slovak, Portuguese, French, Italian and Hungarian Languages. Tareq Samin is a Martin Roth Initiative Scholarship alumni (joint program of Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen and the Goethe-Institut). His poetry has the theme of secularism, calling for people of different faiths to stand united, admonishing religious extremism and violence, and speaking of the power of poetry to bring about change; he talks of the pressures of writing in a stifling social climate. He is an important voice in the literary world working against violence and extremism and in favour of peace and free speech.

EVA TIND (DENMARK) - FICTION, POETRY

Being born in Korea and brought up in Denmark, her work reflects on the concept of cultural identity, through verse, prose, documentary material and pictures in the intricate interplay between the personal and the universal. Her books often highlight how the world can seem very different depending on who is looking at it and from where. Her last novel Kvinden der samlede verden (The woman who unitied the world) was published in 2021 by Gyldendal.

FELICIA YAP (MALAYSIA) - FICTION

Felicia Yap is the author of the speculative literary thrillers Future Perfect and Yesterday. She read biochemistry at Imperial College London, followed by a doctorate in history (and a half-blue in competitive ballroom dancing) at Cambridge University. Felicia grew up in Kuala Lumpur. She has worked as a cell biologist, a war historian, a university lecturer, a technology journalist, a theatre critic, a flea-market trader and a catwalk model. @FeliciaMYap

CLAUDINE GALEA (FRANCE) - THEATRE, FICTION

Claudine Galea writes novels, theater, stories, for adults and youth. Winner of the Grand Prize for Dramatic Literature with Au Bord in 2011 and the same prize in Youth with Noircisse in 2019. She also received the SACD prize for her radio dramas on France-Culture and France-Inter. Her theater texts are published by Espaces 34. Among the last ones, Fake, Blanche-Neige Foutue Forêt, Au Bois, Les Invisibles, etc. Her last novel Les choses comme elles sont was published by Verticales in 2019. Her other novels are published by Le Rouergue and Le Seuil. She collaborates with the magazine Remue.Net with a literary column Rêver lire. She is a member of the editorial board of the magazine Ubu Scènes d'Europe and of the magazine Parages, magazine of the Théâtre national de Strasbourg where she is an associate artist.

HEATHER HARTLEY (USA) - FICTION, POETRY

Heather Hartley is the author of the poetry collections Adult Swim (2016) and Knock Knock (2010) both from Carnegie Mellon University Press and Paris Editor for Tin House magazine. Her short fiction and poems have appeared in or on PBS Newshour, The Guardian, Slice and other venues. She has presented writers at Shakespeare and Company Bookshop in Paris and has taught creative writing at the American University of Paris.

MATTHIEU RUF (SWITZERLAND) - FICTION

Born in 1984 in Lausanne, Matthieu Ruf is a freelance journalist and member of the collectif d’auteur-e-s AJAR. He studied Spanish literature and history at the University of Lausanne, then literary writing at the Master CAP of the Bern University of the Arts. His first novel, Percussions, was awarded the Georges-Nicole Prize. His current projects include a “six-handed” graphic novel and the stage adaptation of his second book Seconde nature (Paulette éditeur, 2018).

Adrien Gygax est un écrivain suisse de langue française, d'une trentaine d'années, qui a grandi et qui vit dans le Canton de Vaud. Il est l'auteur de deux romans : Aux noces de nos petites vertus (Cherche-Midi, 2017) et Se réjouir de la fin(Grasset, 2020) qui sera adapté au théâtre en 2021. Il poursuit ses explorations littéraires autour de la question de l'artificialité et de la figure d'Héraclite.

Rosie Pinhas-Delpuech is a translator of Hebrew and director of the "Hebrew Letters" collection of the French publishing house Actes Sud for more than fifteen years. She has also taught literature and philosophy. She is the author of Insomnia, une traduction nocturne (Actes Sud, 'un endroit où aller', 1998), Suite byzantine (Bleu autour, 2003) and Anna - Une histoire française (Bleu autour, 2007).

CELINE ZUFFEREY (SWITZERLAND) - FICTION

Born in Switzerland in 1991, Céline Zufferey now lives in Lyon. Her first novel, Sauver les meubles was published by Editions Gallimard (2017). It has been translated into Italian (Edizioni Casagrande) and Swedish (Papamoscas bokförlag). Writer and journalist, she is particularly interested in the image, fixed or animated. In 2019, she was awarded a Pro Helvetia grant for creative writing. Winner of the Prix du jeune écrivain francophone (in 2014 and 2015), she has also published New York K.O. with Paulette Éditrice (2016).

REGINA LóPEZ MUñOZ (SPAIN) - Translation - LOOREN IN LAVIGNY FELLOWSHIP

Born in Málaga in 1985, Regina López Muñoz has been fully dedicated to literary translation since 2011. She has translated more than a hundred books from French, English, Italian and Portuguese for various Spanish publishing houses, mainly contemporary novels and memoirs. Among the French-speaking authors she has translated are Jean Genet, Charlotte Delbo, Léon-Paul Fargue, Maria van Rysselberghe, Victor Segalen, Dominique Barbéris, Marie Darrieussecq, and the Prix Goncourt winners Éric Vuillard, Jérôme Ferrari, Frédéric Pajak and Thierry Thomas. At the same time, she has specialized in comics, and she collaborates as a facilitator of practical university workshops.

BOJAN SAVIć OSTOJIć (SERBIA) - Translation - LOOREN IN LAVIGNY FELLOWSHIP

Bojan Savić Ostojić (born 1983 in Belgrade) is the author of ten books of prose and poetry (the latest of which, a novel, Ništa nije ničije, was taken in the final selection of the NIN prize) and about thirty translations including Mes amis by Emmanuel Bove, Poteaux d'angles by Henri Michaux, Locus Solus by Raymond Roussel, as well as several other titles by Proust, Artaud, Perec, Butor, Desnos... Founder of the contemporary poetry review Agon (agoncasopis. com) and of the Knjižuljak publishing house, he lives in Belgrade as an independent literary translator.
